Insect Repellents

Protection from insect bites on exposed skin is critical, whether it be to avoid annoying itchy bites or to protect from harmful diseases. PelGar specialises in producing insect repellents for the armed forces and the adventure sector, where high quality, dependable control is a pre-requisite.

DEET (diethyltoluamide) has long been considered the most effective mosquito repellent. It was originally developed in the USA for military use and is formulated such that the mosquito’s receptors are blocked from sensing human sweat, odours or CO2 emissions that attract mosquitoes.

SDS Group Australia are pleased to offer the new PelGar Permapel RFU EX4+, the advanced ingredients provide protection against mosquitoes, midges, ticks and other biting insects and can be used on tents, mosquito nets, rucksacks and camping materials as well as the advanced fabrics used to manufacture emergency services and military uniforms. This repellent will provide up to 2 weeks protection against insects depending on weather conditions, it is non-irritant, non-staining and odourless.

Military stationed in the Pacific were issued with the PelGar EX4+, comments back included that it "was useful to treat mosquito net provided by the accommodation", "the EX4+ was compact and easy to carry", "in areas where mosquitoes were present – none were observed to land on me" and"after the week long trip I had not been bitten by a mosquito".

PELGAR PERMAPEL RFU EX4+ NSN number 6840-99-670-1469 was developed in conjunction with tactical military units who needed the protection of permethrin in an easy to use format, which at the same time created no environmental waste hazard in the operational combat zone. This specialised formulation dries rapidly and can also be used on packs, battle rigs, body armour, boots, tents and mosquito nets.

When applied you only treat the outside of the uniform, therefore limiting the amount of insecticide that would come in contact with the skin.  PERMAPEL RFU EX4+ has also been independently flame tested on a number of complex military fabrics to show that it does not effect the end use of these uniforms. This is a new type of non-aerosol bottle that gives a fixed output of 1.2ml per second with a continuous spray even when the bottle is inverted allowing coverage of large areas.

A 300ml bottle of PelGar Permapel RFU EX4+ will treat two combat uniforms. A treated uniform will give approximately four weeks of protection against biting insects depending on usage pattern and environmental conditions.
